An innovative educational program, its architectural form, unscheduled collaboration spaces, and colorful facades distinguish this school’s design. It serves 1,400 students, Pre-K through eighth grade. The large enrollment is mitigated by breaking down the school into smaller learning communities that are integrated along the north-south circulation spine.
A pixelated photo of the Rio Grande bosque in the fall inspired the pattern of colored exterior panels cladding the classroom sections. In addition to the classroom sections, the library, administration, and gym are also distributed along the circulation spine that is distinguished by silver-colored exterior panels. Informal gathering and study spaces adjacent to this major circulation spine are intended to encourage communication and exchange of ideas between the various age groups. Technology and collaboration spaces are decentralized to allow easy access and mentorship opportunities.
Natural lighting, innovative use of glass walls for marker boards, and colorful interior materials provide cheerful learning environments.
